Camp EWALU, a year-round ministry, has evolved over its 60-year history to become a cherished space for over 200 Lutheran congregations in Eastern Iowa. From its humble beginnings as a two-week, summer-only camp serving 150 youth, it has grown exponentially. Now, more than 1,000 youth participate in our summer programs, with an additional 1,000 engaged through our Day Camp evangelism program. We welcome 2,500 environmental education students and host nearly 6,500 youth and adults seeking faith renewal and growth.

At the heart of Camp Ewalu's summer ministry is its unique decentralized, small group camping environment. This approach fosters increased camper participation, encourages counselor responsibility, and optimizes our vast facility spanning hundreds of acres of forest. While individual program modifications have occurred, the overall format of the summer camp program remains deeply rooted in its original design.
